Sod Varieties for Vermont

Vermont sits in USDA Zone 4 across most of the state. The varieties that thrive here lean cold-hardy. We deliver the full premium cool-season landscape:

Kentucky Bluegrass

Vermont Workhorse
Min sun: 6+ hrs Shade: Low–Medium

The most cold-hardy of the common cool-season grasses — the right backbone for Vermont's Zone 4 winters. Deep emerald color, fine texture, self-repair from rhizomes.

Kentucky Bluegrass guide

Black Beauty Tall Fescue

Drought-Tough Premium
Min sun: 4+ hrs Shade: Medium

Refined aesthetic with deep roots and drought tolerance for VT's drier inland valleys. Holds up through Vermont winters when established properly.

Tall Fescue guide

Bluegrass-Fescue Blends

Most Versatile
Min sun: 4–6 hrs Shade: Medium

The most popular VT specification — bluegrass's cold-hardiness and color with tall fescue's broader resilience and drought tolerance.

RTF (Rhizomatous Tall Fescue)

Best for Dogs & High Traffic
Min sun: 4+ hrs Shade: Medium

Self-repair via underground runners. The most dog-resistant and high-traffic-resilient cool-season sod we carry — popular for resort properties and homes with active families.

Professional Installation Service

For larger Vermont projects we send a full installation crew. Our dedicated crews work full-time on sod jobs — the speed, skill, and consistency landscape generalists can't match. For VT installs we coordinate the crew arrival with the sod truck so the product goes down fresh on the same day it's cut.

1

Site Preparation

Soil tilling, grading, and debris removal. Hand-raked smooth before sod arrives.

2

Same-Day Sod & Crew Arrival

No waiting, no wilting. Sod and crew arrive together for optimal freshness.

3

Precise Installation

Brickwork-staggered seams, tight joints, smooth grading. Rolled for soil contact before we leave.

4

Aftercare Guidance

Day-by-day watering schedule, first-mow timing, and what to expect over Vermont's short growing season.

Installation is available for orders of 1,000 sq ft or more. See our prep guide and first 14 days aftercare guide.

Please Call To Order

Sod is cut fresh for each order — orders cannot be placed until paid, and we ask for 2 business days notice to cancel once the harvest is scheduled.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! Product was delivered on-time and as fresh as it gets. We installed sod about 2 years ago. With regular watering and fertilizing it looks very good. Highly recommend this company!
